I did a test through the Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M.) Communication to found out my characteristics that best describe me. There were four styles with a group of different characteristics for each of these styles. After finishing ticketing all the boxes, I have found that style four can describe my communication the most, where it includes descriptions like Patient, Good Listener, Shows Loyalty and Neighbourly.

The test result gives me the name of my potential communication style. I discovered that I am mainly a Mainstay. The characteristics for Mainstay such as sensitive, caring, nurturing, quiet, cooperative and willing people are usually positive for the team; however, they can cause challenges. Sometimes, being too sensitive in workplaces can lead to relationship issues and misunderstandings. Most of the time, focus on the work instead of personal feeling is the most important as it is not about me, but it is about work and the team. Mainstays also need direction and supervision from team leader and other team members, but I disagree that I can only achieve result with hand in hand assist with them.

The result also describes what might workers with other personalities see me. There are opportunities and challenges when I communicate with team members that have different personalities. Those rest of three communication styles are Analyst, Taskmaster and Enthusiast.

In my opinion, communicating with Analyst and Enthusiast is less challenging comparing that with that of Taskmaster. I learnt that when talking to Analyst and Enthusiast, it is necessary to focus on the facts, data and definite options. In addition, building a confident relationship and providing recognitions on accomplishments are also essential. Communicating and building relationships with Taskmasters can be the most challenging, as they value results the most and care less about workers’ feeling. In summary, I think Mainstay is a welcomed role in a team, but with shortcomings mentioned above which need to be improved.
